Personality

John is and will always be a split man. It goes well beyond the usual internal versus external, but falls short of being a split personality. What binds two sides together is that no matter what, he is a dedicated police officer and family man. Who believes in true justice and would do anything for his wife and kids.

The face he shows the world for the most part is stern, serious, and in control. The control is almost pathological, to the point that after upsetting his wife on a drunken spell lasting several days, he behaved as if he were an alcoholic. He refused to drink, even in social situations. Not because he had to, but because he had to be in control. In some ways it's necessary, as he was a homicide detective and had to face down nightmarish crime scenes, but still be prepared to read his daughter a bedtime story. While this tendency to be in control of everything can turn ugly for married couples, his worst actions against his wife were vanishing for a few days, or forgetting to call when he was late (as far as he knew). He was, and still is, truly dedicated to his family.

His other side, however, is what he needs the control to keep under wraps. This side of him is almost purely fuelled by rage. He feels there should be real justice in the world for the heinous crimes he sees, but the true criminals get off easy. He truly believes he could single handedly reduce crime in the city if he were "let off the leash." Once he did let go, he found that not only was he good at murder, but he deeply enjoyed it. This side of him also seeks out more reckless behaviors, and had no problem cheating on his wife.

At first, these two sides were at odds with each other. To the point that after his first murder, he attempted to hang himself. Not out of guilt, but out of the same of enjoying it. Eventually he came to accept this side of himself, but it was complicated by a sort of fugue state. He could remember everything when he was at the hotel, but once he left, he returned to super in control John, with no memory of his murders.

When he checked into the hotel as Control John, the two sides began to crash together. Under the strain he lost control again, leading to a complete and utter mental breakdown. But in time, the two sides came together and created the man who will be arriving in the game. With both sides melded as one, it is now as if he wears two masks that he changes at will.

What this means is that he interacts with people in a way that no one would ever even suspect that he murdered numerous people and removed their organs for a creepy trophy room. He's charming, if a little broody, capable in a crisis, and quite competent in many areas. But he won't hesitate to resort to murder, if the need arises. He doesn't believe in killing at will, only when people deserve it. In this setting it would be thieves, trouble makers, and those who pose a threat to the people trying to survive. Because those he gets to know are likely to be like family to him. And he will protect his family, no matter the cost.

Having lived in a murder hotel with ghosts and vampires, and dining once a year with the ghosts of the most notorious serial killers, not much scares him. However, anything that takes control from him or makes him think he's genuinely losing his mind, will always do the trick. Especially since he thinks he's got a handle on it, now. He gets extremely volatile in this state, emotionally and physically. It could mean breaking down and crying, screaming in rage, or running around naked while covered in blood.

Special Abilities

He may have been a ghost in canon, but he's coming in as a completely normal human. Unless cop skills and murder training count as special abilities.
